Last week I showed you my new bright yellow ottoman that I picked up at Goodwill.
Well, it's not bright yellow anymore!
With a little latex paint, some fabric medium, a spray bottle of water, and some elbow grease,
it nows looks like this...
It used to look like this....
Not that there was anything wrong with the bright yellow, it just wasn't jiving with the rest of the room.
The new color is Benjamin Moore Deusen Blue.
It almost has a denim look to it.
And it flows much better with the rest of the room now.
I figured if I totally screwed it up, I could always have it reupholstered.
A tufted ottoman probably wasn't the best piece to experiment on.
It was quite the challenge to paint the folds of the fabric.
but fortunately it turned out great!
I don't think I'll make a habit of painting upholstered furniture,
but giving this ottoman a facelift with paint was the perfect solution.
Come on, fess up. Have you ever painted upholstery?

Who knew? I didn't know you could paint upholstery. You must share how you did it and if the piece still feels like fabric or does it feel painted. Thanks for sharing at DIYbyDesign's Swing into Spring party.
ReplyDeleteOh, you are so clever!! It's the perfect fit! You did a wonderful job, it doesn't look like paint at all!
ReplyDeleteAmazing!!! I would have never guessed it was painted. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour ottoman looks great. And yes, we have painted two upholstered wing chairs. They went for very multi shades of blueto a creamy white. We changed our breakfast area into a small sitting area. The chairs look and feel great. Did this about six months ago. Just recently reapplied a clear wax to them.

Luv the color and it turned out nice. I discovered you on Miss Mustard Seed and I'm now a follower!
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous! You did a beautiful job of painting it, you can tell by the photos that it's not originally that color.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, that color does totally jive more now. I'm gearing up for a little furniture painting myself. :)
ReplyDeleteI meant to say, "You CAN'T tell by the photos that it's not originally that color." Sorry about the type-o. Your living room colors are very pretty and the ottoman fits in perfectly in it's new blue coat.
