A TV IN THE BEDROOM

My kids always ask if they can have a TV in their bedroom.
My answer is always the same.....
"When you grow up and have our own house, you can have a TV in your bedroom".
It keeps me from looking like a hypocrite, since we have a TV in our bedroom.

I am not a huge TV watcher, but occasionally, I just want to retreat to our bedroom,
cuddle up under the covers and watch some good ole trashy TV.

We have had a big box TV in our armoire for many years.

Santa brought a new TV for our family room.
Therefore, the box TV gets to take a hike and the 42" flat screen
that was in the family room is moving to our room.

I am on the hunt for a dresser to replace the armoire.
Not sure what I will do with the armoire yet.

We plan to mount the TV on the wall over the dresser.
I'll be adding some art around the TV to disguise it a bit.
I'll be going for a look similar to this.

I have my eye on a dresser and I have started to collect art for the gallery wall.

Disclaimer:  I don't see anything wrong with a child having a TV in their room.
As a matter of fact, I had a tiny black and white one in my bedroom as a child.
It just happens to be our personal decision to not allow our children to have one in their rooms.

  1. We made the huge mistake of telling our son that he could only have a TV in his room if he bought it with his own money. Well..... that little enterprising 10 year old found enough recyclable materials within just a few weeks to sell for more than enough to buy his own TV. Fortunately, it had a happy ending because he knew he had to follow our rules regarding its use.

  2. I am on the same page as you... just hope I can hold out! I love working art around the wall mount! I have the same plans for my bedroom tv... just need to install it! Good luck on your hunt!

  3. I had a television in my room as a kid, but we only had a few channels at our house (no cable).

When we moved here (almost four years ago), we never bothered to unpack and install the television in our bedroom. The kids never ask about a television in their rooms. Instead they prefer to read in bed.

  4. i had a tiny black and white, too! :) it was red and from the 1960's i think- super old!
and we have one in the playroom for the kids, but i am not ready for their rooms- they aren't old enough to use them responsibly but when they are i don't see a problem either. we are here to parent and make sure it's use properly!

  5. I also do not allow the kids to have a TV in their room, simply because I want them to spend as much time with us as they are willing. I feel if they had a TV in their rooms we wouldn't see them in the evenings as much...

  6. We recently added a TV in our room because like you I like to retreat, get cozy under the covers and watch the Kardashians ;) Steve wants to mount the TV at some point as well.

  7. I remember my parents telling me the same thing when I was a kid :D I love the look for a tv. It's exactly what I want to do with ours in the living room. Right now I would love to be cuddled up in bed watching tv - I'm super jealous!!!
