MY WORD OF THE YEAR

I am one that likes fresh starts - the start of a new year, the start of summer, the start of the school year.  The start of winter, not so much.  But winter leads to Spring and I certainly like the start of Spring.
With each fresh start, I always find myself wanting to change, improve, re-do, you know, start fresh.

I normally make a few resolutions at the beginning of each new year.
This year was no exception. I won't bore you with my list of
resolutions that I may or may not keep.
However, I will share my word of the year with you and I promise you
that this word will have a huge impact on my life this year and every year to come.

My word of the year is.....

Yes sir, that's it.
I could have chosen a thousand words that would have been fitting for me -
like, FOCUS or SUCCEED or INSPIRE or SAVE.

But, no, I have chosen PRAY.
My "word of the year" falls right in line with several of my resolutions
and as I was considering what word to choose, this one kept coming to mind.

For instance, when I was deciding on my resolutions, I kept thinking to myself,
"Well, I could probably accomplish that if I prayed about it,
or maybe I could stop doing that if I just prayed about it more."

It seemed like a pretty natural choice, really.

Kind of takes some of the pressure off me.
I am a worrier by nature and a bit of a control freak.
Gasp!  Okay, mom, little sister and husband, there I said it.
Yes, I like to control things.
You see, praying makes me feel like I can hand it over to God,
rather than trying to be in control all the time.
Knowing God ultimately holds all the cards and is in complete control
is such a freeing feeling for me.

So there you have it, my word of the year for 2014.
I know, not my typical post.
I tend to shy away from getting too personal, on the blog and in real life.
I often have a difficult time forming close relationships because of this.
I'm working on that, both on the blog and in real life.

Don't worry, I'm not going to start sharing my deepest thoughts on a regular basis,
but it is MY blog and I want it to truly reflect who I am.

  3. Beautiful Andrea! Thanks for sharing, it is nice to know what is in people's hearts. I find it hard to imagine that you have a difficult time forming close relationships as from what I see you are warm, personable and easy to chat with. And, I LOVE coming here and hearing what you have to say.

  5. I read all your blog posts, but never comment...yes, I am that stalker...however I was touched by your openness. This is a great word and it takes courage to just let things go sometimes.

  6. I so agree with you! We are very much alike -- and I've already tried the "pray" thing! It works and I feel so much better letting God worry about some things! Good luck to you!
