To Paint or Not To Paint

After I looked at the pictures again from my post yesterday, I got the urge to paint the dark wooden bookshelf in The Gathering Place.  This piece of furniture was a gift from my parents for our very first Christmas as a married couple.  It came from an antique store and I'm always a little apprehensive about painting old pieces.  However, I asked my mom and she said "do whatever you want".  So, what I want to do, is paint it white and paint the back (not the shelves) in a dark orange.  It would look something like this piece (minus the doors and painted shelves).  What do you think?  Should I paint it or leave it be?

Here's what the bookcase looks like now.

Don't you think it would look much better painted white?
The bottom is a different color because we had to take the molding off (the air vent is underneath).

This wraps up my first official week of blogging.  Thanks to everyone who has visited and I hope you keep coming back.  I promise to work on my blogging and photography skills.
I'm off to spend a wild restful weekend the some great girlfriends.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

  1. Absolutely - paint it. I wish I could paint some items in our house, but Jim is very gunshy about painting real wood furniture. Sigh.

  2. Paint it! From what I can tell, everything you do looks great, so I'm sure this will, too. Can't wait to see it finished!
