LET THE SUNSHINE IN

After taking the sheers down from our bay window, I was eager to let more light in to our house.
While sitting down for dinner one night, my eyes began to wander
and they eventually landed on the bamboo blinds hung in our kitchen/dining room window.

This is wat they used to look like this.

And now, after moving them up to hang just beneath the curtain rod....

Such an easy change for a dramatic difference.
First, it lets it in a ton more light and second, it makes the window appear much larger than it really is.
Definitely should have corrected this mistake a long time ago.

Who thinks I should add a rug here?
Sorry honey, looks like my wandering eye is at it again.

  1. I always have loved this space in your home. I think a nice rug would soften the area a bit more. it's already beautiful!

  2. Enormous improvement! Who knew it could be this simple to make such a dramatic change? Of course simple probably involved some tools and elbow grease, but hey...
Yes, honey, a rug is needed!

  3. It does look dramatically larger. I'm sure in person you can really see how much more light the new arrangement lets in.

  4. that subtle change is amazing! seriously- you's so smart! ;)
a rug might be nice, BUT i will say i do not use a rug in my dining room... when i had one before i felt like it was always getting dirty, so i just decided i didn't need to live with the stress of it! :)

  6. That did make a huge difference. I would get a nice seagrass rug and they are easy to clean. You can get them at a reasonable price on overstock.com and under three dollars for shipping.

  7. Oh wow, that does make a big difference! And, I think a rug would be pretty great in there. You can tell your husband it's all our fault :)

  8. What a great idea! It makes the window look like it goes to the ceiling. I've hung curtains to the ceiling before but never thought of hanging blinds up there. Brilliant!

Oh and yeah, I think a rug would look amazing in there.

  10. Isn't it amazing what hanging everything up high can do for a room?!

I think a rug would add color and break up all the wood - I put one in my dining room for that reason and love it. Can't wait to see what you find.

  14. I like the look, Andrea! We could all use a little more light these days. I agree with you, a rug would look nice and ground your table. If you are looking for seagrass or jute or sisal, try Natural Area Rugs.com. The prices are great!

  15. Little tweeks that go a long way are the best. And yes to the rug - I think it will bring even more warmth to the space.

  19. Wow ! It was already a beautiful room, but moving up the shades does make a difference ! I also vote for the rug, just to add a little more texture. Can I also ask a question ? When you move up the shade, to just under the curtain rod, are you putting the screws right into the dry wall, or is there some frame up there that you can screw the shade into ? I would like to do that in my house, but I'm worried that the weight of the shade will pull it down, if it is directly into just drywall.....hope that question makes sense !
