A Darling Dollhouse

I was tucking my eight year old daughter into bed tonight, I looked over at the dollhouse Santa brought her when she was three.  It reminded me of all the work Santa put into that thing.  Santa started with a plain wooden dollhouse from Target.

It looked almost exactly like this one.

Santa stained all the floors, painted all the walls, made window treatments, added some amazing furniture, made area rugs, added shingles to the roof, hung family pictures on the walls and even stocked the kitchen cabinets.  My daughter must have been a very good little girl that year.

Here it is after Santa's renovations.

Of course, the women are in kitchen.

While the men relax (typical!)

The master bedroom (looks like Daddy snuck off to take a little nap).

The girly girl room.

The laundry room

Wow, after taking these photos, I think it's time for a little redecorating.  Looks like I found my next project.  Sadly, I have found myself cleaning and organizing that dollhouse on several occasions.  I realize Santa gave the dollhouse to my daughter, but I once freaked out a bit when she wanted to move the kitchen furniture to the bedroom and put the bathroom stuff in the laundry room.  I quickly came to my senses, let her do whatever she wanted and then quietly put it all back in it's place when she was finished playing.  You think I'm kidding!  I know, I've got some issues.  First step is admitting, right?  Anyway, now that she's eight, she doesn't play with it very often, but I will never be able to give it away.  Hopefully she can pass it on to her kids one day they will cherish it as much as her mother she does.

  1. it is adorable. I am cracking up as my BIL made my daughter one that was similar to be used as a bookcase and shelf. You should have seen me trying to fill the shelves. My daughter had other ideas. Needless to say it wasn't looking much like the Pottery Barn kids look. She had her own ideas!

  5. This is so cute. I once built a doll house. My Mom has it now and decorates it per season. I now see my following went through, I thought this was my first visit here, but it was first appearing that I already followed you.

  7. I just love this post! Your (I mean your daughter's) dollhouse is amazing! Santa brought one for our daughter when she was 5 (she's now 25!!). She is now out on her own, in her own teensy apartment, shared with 2 roommates, so there is no room for her dollhouse. It now sits on top of the armoire in our bedroom. Like yours, ours will never leave the family and will hopefully someday be passed down!! Thanks for sharing this story!... Donna

  10. Love it!
I am a doll house person! Stop by sometime and see mine.

I always had one as a kid and when I was older I bought a huge one. The outside took me about 5 years!! More than I had planned.

I have a bunch of furniture I've collected all my life!

So does your daughter just love it!??

  12. What an adorable dollhouse. I can see why you... er, I mean your daughter would never be able to part with it. I feel the same way about my daughter's Madeline dolls. My husband I loved buying things for her doll collection and were sad when she was too old.

  14. Wow, that is awesome. I think my... I mean my daughter's doll house needs some work. It looks so realistic. Who made all that furniture? I have rearranged the furniture in my daughter's house quite a few times and she just got it last month! Crazy mom's.
