Thrifty Thursday

Since school is out in two days (not that I'm counting down or anything), I thought I would take advantage of my one day a week alone and go thrifting on Tuesday.  I found a few things.

Starting with my favorite:

I scored this original artwork for $25.  I passed it up at first because of the price tag, but I just couldn't leave it there.  I'm working on adding more original art to our home.  Doesn't have to be a famous painting or a high price piece of art, just something that speaks to me.
And this painting does just that!

My next find was this beautiful copper bowl.  A real steal at $3.00.  I love the tarnished look of it.

The flowers are from my yard, but I got the cute little blue vase for $3.00.  Love the twine detail.

I bought this next item for two reasons:
1) it was $1.00
2) to remind me to practice patience with my children during summer break

Too bad I didn't find a black and white striped shirt and a whistle. I have a feeling that's what I'll really be needing as I attempt to play referee for the next ten weeks.

That's all folks!  Not sure how much thrifting I'll be doing over the summer.  One of my least favorite things to do, besides laundry, cleaning and cooking, is to take my children shopping with me.  I'll keep up with Thrifty Thursday, just might not be showcasing my own thrifty finds.

Oh and on another, completely off the subject, topic, did you watch Oprah today?  I've always been an Oprah fan and cried my eyes out tonight when I watched the finale.  I was trying to explain to my daughter that I've been watching Oprah since I was her age.  She was trying to comfort me and kept saying, "Oh, I feel so bad for you."  Meanwhile, she was crying because she's going to miss her third grade teacher.  I'm so thankful to have a little girl!  Love those boys too, but they were sword fighting around us while we were having our emotional breakdowns.

  1. I need one of those signs in my house - a great reminder.

I watched Oprah too - oh how I will miss her. I loved her final show. So classy, humble and real, which I think is why she appeals to the masses. I got to go to her show last year, and I have to say - it was one of those things that was on my bucket list, and I'm SO glad we got to go!

  6. My mom had that poem hanging in her kitchen during my growing up years. Now that I am a mom of 7, it belongs to me.

Glad I found your blog. A homeschool mom at FIVEINAROW.com sent me a link. She found it, I think, thru Pinterest.

  7. I love the poem you have posted! I've had it pinned on Pinterest for the longest time and finally printed it out. I sometimes need a good reminder to use every ounce of patience I posses. :)

I love this as well. Think I'm going to buy it for my daughter to hang on her wall. She is expecting her first child this June. I think it would make a perfect shower gift.<3
